Sloped, overhanging crowns
A crown that sheds water clear of the brick.

Chimneys & Fireplaces
Cracked crowns and missing caps let rain, animals and debris into the chimney. We rebuild them to shed water and keep the flue protected.

The crown is the sloped concrete or mortar slab at the very top of a masonry chimney. Its job is to shed water away from the brick and the flue. A cracked or flat crown lets water soak into the chimney, which leads to spalling and leaks.
We rebuild crowns with a proper slope and drip edge, and install stainless caps with mesh screens to keep rain, leaves and animals out. A new crown and cap is one of the best-value upgrades for a Nashville chimney.

FAQ
Small cracks can sometimes be sealed, but a failing crown is best rebuilt.
A cap is strongly recommended. It keeps out rain, animals and debris.
It lets the flue tile and crown expand and contract separately without cracking.
